Quote of the day – (4th in our series)
Today’s quote is written by Jerusalem Post Defense Correspondent Yaakov Katz, writing about the report commissioned by the IDF, which was recently presented to the client (with only a summary to the public) by Major General Giora Eiland:
“…what is also clear from the recent flotilla affair, and others before it, is that the military culture [...]

Investigation: Eiland says damage to Israel is less than thought after Flotilla attack
Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eiland delivered his report on the Freedom Flotilla fiasco to the IDF Chief of Staff today, and said that “the issue should be viewed with perspective, being that the damage caused to Israel is not as severe as it seemed following the incident”.
According to Haaretz, Eiland told journalists after he delivered the [...]
15 months later, IDF to open investigation into death of West Bank demonstrator
Haaretz is reporting today that the IDF’s Military Advocate General (MAG) Avichai Mandelblit has just ordered the army’s criminal investigations unit to investigate the death of Basem Abu Rahmeh (Bassem Abu Rahma), one of the leaders of a protest movement against Israel’s Wall in Bil’in village west of Ramallah.
Basem Abu Rahmeh was killed in April [...]

Israeli naval blockade of Gaza asserted in UN documents
Israeli Foreign Ministry officials told Haaretz that Minister Avigdor Lieberman has contacted the Greek and Moldovan Foreign Ministers, and asked them to stop a Moldovan-flagged cargo ship which intended to sail, imminently, from Greece to Gaza.
Reports indicated, Saturday evening, that the ship had just sailed.
The voyage for this ship from Greece to Gaza [...]

Israel will not loosen naval blockade of Gaza
As we reported earlier, Israel will maintain its naval blockade of the Gaza Strip even as it accedes to international demands to ease the military-administered sanctions it imposes on the coastal territory.
Israel’s security cabinet met on Sunday, as did the full cabinet. A decision was taken to allow into Gaza (via land crossings [...]

Nablus: not allowed to visit Joseph’s Tomb!
Yesterday, while in Nablus, we went to Joseph’s Tomb – just on the edge of downtown Nablus, and near Balata and Askar refugee camps.
There was no one else there as we parked next to the low white-washed domes.
But there was a Palestinian Security post right across the streets. One soldier/policeman came with his [...]

U.S. “demands” IDF probe
Haaretz reported today that “The United States embassy has demanded an investigation into how an American citizen lost her eye last week at the Qalandiyah checkpoint after being struck by a tear gas grenade”.
I would guess that “demanded” might be too strong a word.
[Later, I noticed that the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, JTA, used the probably-more-accurate [...]
