Nablus: not allowed to visit Joseph’s Tomb!

Yesterday, while in Nablus, we went to Joseph’s Tomb – just on the edge of downtown Nablus, and near Balata and Askar refugee camps. There was no one else there as we parked next to the low white-washed domes. But there was a Palestinian Security post right across the streets. One soldier/policeman came with his [...]

U.S. “demands” IDF probe

Haaretz reported today that “The United States embassy has demanded an investigation into how an American citizen lost her eye last week at the Qalandiyah checkpoint after being struck by a tear gas grenade”. I would guess that “demanded” might be too strong a word. [Later, I noticed that the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, JTA, used the probably-more-accurate [...]

The IDF posts “unedited” version of “doctored” audio

Yesterday, the IDF posted a 29-second Youtube version of an audio exchange– not long before an assault at sea, and part of the set piece of theatrics that had to take place for this drama to play out according to script — between Israeli Navy radio officers and what the IDF initially said was the [...]

Gazan port–pre and post-massacre

Nothing verbose or amusing to unload on you. Just photos. From before the massacre, when everyone I met was so guardedly happy, noticing that the world was doing something for them. One of the Palestinians on the boat said, "The child, he is like handala."

Then the day of.

Then today, in spite of the mock funeral. [...] Related posts:

Intriguing “goodwill” measures announced by IDF commanders

Just as Israel’s Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu apparently promised George Mitchell last week, it has now happened: Israel announced on Sunday night a number of steps to be taken “in the near future” that the IDF is describing as “easing” and “goodwill” measures. The announcement was actually made first to Israeli media. It was only [...]

The Jerusalem Post’s well-connected Defense Correspondent Yaakov Katz has reported today (Thursday) that “on Wednesday, the Military Police began investigating the shooting of two Palestinians on Saturday near Nablus who were killed, likely by IDF troops, during a protest. The soldiers were supposed to only use rubber bullets”. This news is posted here. This is a [...]

Two teenage Palestinians shot by IDF fire near Nablus – both die

Not long after UNSG BAN Ki-Moon was escorted by Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in security and relative luxury on a “brief” tour of the West Bank, to see settlements and The Wall, near Ramallah, two teenage Palestinians were shot by Israeli forces in the northern West Bank village of Iraq Burin, south of Nablus. One [...]
